The GW softball team lost Wednesday afternoon, falling 2-1 to Towson in a brief, one-game break from Atlantic 10 action.

The Colonials struck first against the Tigers, scoring in the first inning when junior third baseman Katie Terrazas drove in senior lead-off hitter Amanda Holst on a single to right field. That first-inning run proved to be the final tally of the game for the Colonials, however, as they were held to just four hits for the remainder of the game.

GW starter Kara Clauss went six and one-third innings, but surrendered both Towson runs, allowing the Tigers to score once in both the fourth and sixth innings to earn the loss.

The game was GW’s first since splitting a double-header at home last week against La Salle, winning the first game 4-2 before dropping the back half of the twin-bill to the Explorers 8-6.

The Colonials will return to the field again this weekend with games Saturday and Sunday against Rhode Island. Saturday’s game against the Rams is set for 3 p.m. and Sunday’s first pitch will be at noon.
