The heiress of one of America’s wealthiest families and a Mount Vernon College alumna was found stabbed to death in her Honduras spa resort last week.
Nedenia Dye, who graduated from Mount Vernon College before it was absorbed by GW, was found in her room Dec. 22 with multiple stab wounds in her back, the Associated Press reported Friday. She was 46.
Police told reporters that they arrested a local singer with whom Dye was romantically involved. The singer, whom Dye was allegedly helping quit drugs, told police he was innocent, but was found driving away in her car wearing blood-soaked clothing, according to the report.
Dye, who is the great-granddaughter of socialite and business executive Marjorie Merriweather Post, who also attended Mount Vernon College, had managed a chain of luxury spas in Honduras for more than a decade.
Dye was last on campus in September 2012, when she spoke to members of GW’s Women’s Leadership Program, a legacy of her former college.
“It’s been incredible coming back here,” Dye said then. “I have made lifelong friends that have supported me through thick and through thin.”

The Hatchet incorrectly reported that the Honduras singer suspected of Dye’s death was helping her quit drugs. In fact, Dye was helping him quit. We regret this error.
