City police find report of armed man in South Hall not a threat

This post was written by news editors Brianna Gurciullo and Cory Weinberg

A report of an armed man prompted more than a dozen city police to search South Hall Tuesday, but officers discovered just students in Naval reserve training practicing drills with non-functioning rifles.

The call, which came at 6:40 p.m., shut down the 2200 block of F Street for about 20 minutes and brought more than eight Metropolitan Police Department cars to South Hall.

A student in NROTC told MPD officers in the lobby about a half hour later that a group of students had been practicing color guard drills in the 10th floor hallway.

GW sent a University-wide Safety and Security Alert at about 8 p.m. “There was no threat to campus,” according to the alert.
