GW students performed at an open mic night on Thursday to raise money and awareness for genocide prevention in Sudan and the Congo.

Funds benefited Jewish World Watch (JWW), an organization that combats genocide, and Usumain Baraka, a Darfur genocide survivor seeking financial assistance for his education.

“I think music is a really powerful tool to bring people together, ” sophomore and event organizer, Abri Bernstein said.

Bernstein also worked with fellow sophomore Ally Harris, to put on the event, which was held at Bourbon Coffee on L Street.
