Man dies in early morning shooting at 17th and L streets

A man was fatally shot early Thursday morning outside a nightclub just blocks from campus.

The man was sitting in his car, parked near 17th and L streets NW, when he was hit, the Washington Post reported Thursday.

A parking attendant who was on the scene at the time told The Post that the victim had been a customer at the nightclub, Balletto, which opened last fall. The man said he heard six or seven shots fired in all.

The club and dining lounge is located across from Caribou Coffee and is on the same block as a Farragut North metro station.

Police closed that block of L Street, from Connecticut Avenue to 17th Street, for several hours this morning.  Officers told The Post that they were looking for “a black BMW with chrome wheels.”
