The photos of two Corcoran College of Art + Design alumni were chosen this week as “curators’ picks” in the FotoWeekDC competition.
The event, which showcases the work of budding photographers and photojournalists, draws thousands of submissions from D.C. and around the country each year.
Kaitlin Jensco, who earned a bachelor’s degree from the Corcoran in 2012, snagged the award after submitting a series of still photos. Jensco also received an honorable mention for a single photo that she submitted.
Lauren Schneiderman, who graduated with a master’s degree in 2013, earned the single photojournalism curators’ pick for a photo of four people apparently working on a home improvement project. The photo is a snapshot of Schneiderman’s Corcoran thesis project called “Living Coal,” according to a GW release.
Three “curators,” all established D.C. photographers, judged the submissions to pick the stand-out entries in three categories: fine art, photojournalism and photographer’s choice.
The winning submissions are displayed in FotoDC’s online gallery.
The weeklong event typically attracts more than 40,000 people and is held annually in November.
