Seven men were arrested in a police sting near campus for soliciting prostitution last week.
Undercover Metropolitan Police officers arrested the men near the Four Seasons Hotel at 2800 Pennsylvania Ave. Sept. 14, according to police documents. Each suspect was arrested separately between about noon and 11 p.m.
An undercover officer offered each man money for sexual acts, and arrested them after they agreed, according the documents.
MPD spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said the arrests were part of a “prostitution related operation” but declined to provide further information.
The police documents did not includes names or physical descriptions of the arrested men. The Four Seasons Hotel’s public relations office did not return a request for comment.
Jamison Koehler, a criminal offense attorney who works on prostitution cases in D.C., said undercover prostitution busts happen “every once and awhile.”
Legal penalties for soliciting prostitution can range from a $500 to $1,000 fine and up to 180 days in prison, according to D.C. law. A judge may also order community service in place of jail time, depending on the individual circumstances.
There have been 11 prostitution-related arrests in the near Police Service Area 207, where Foggy Bottom falls, since Sept. 7, according to MPD data. None were made on campus.
