After two years as a study hub and weekend lounge for students, The Fishbowl will not be reopening this fall.
The space, located at 2159 G Street, will be converted to office space for the University’s creative management department, the marketing division of Student and Academic Support Services.
The University is renovating the bottom level of the Marvin Center to replace the lost study space. The construction – to be completed by November – will add eight new meeting rooms and two new lounges in place of the former Fed Ex office and a computer lab.
Senior associate vice president of operations, Alicia Knight, said the move brings the department physically closer to its core constituencies, including athletic programs in the Smith Center and undergraduate admissions in Marvin Center.
The reshuffling is part of the University’s long-term plan to centralize student services and improve efficiency of limited campus space, Knight said.
