A former part-time professor was sentenced Friday to 47 months in prison for possession of child pornography, ending a eight-month court case.

Diego Fasolini, 43, pleaded guilty in April to knowingly possessing hundreds of images of minors, some as young as three years old, being forced to engage in sexual acts. After his prison sentence, Fasolini will be on a supervised release for five years.

Fasolini was arrested in October of last year after police found more than 100,000 images of child pornography on an external hard drive the professor gave to Columbian College Office of Technology Services for repair.

Prosecutors and Fasolini’s defense had been working to settle the case without trial since November of last year, but had met obstacles delaying the final agreement.

The U.S. Attorney’s office did not immediately return requests for comment.

Fasolini’s employment with the University ended at the end of the fall 2010 semester.
