A new associate head baseball coach will lead the Colonials next semester until the program finds a head coach, the University announced Friday.
Tom Sheridan, who launched and headed the University of Mary Washington’s baseball program since 1988, will take over about two months after GW fired former head baseball coach Steve Mrowka.
Sheridan has 579 victories under his belt and also served as assistant athletic director at UMW.
In addition to being named Capital Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year nine times, Sheridan has led his team to 11 NCAA Division III tournaments.
Mrowka spent eight seasons with the Colonials and had a 202-245 record. The team had not qualified for postseason play since his first season as head coach in 2005.
GW will announce a new head coach in the fall, according to the release. Athletics communications director Brian Sereno declined to comment on specifics regarding the search and announcement of a new head coach.
