UPD officer struck by vehicle

A University Police Department officer was struck by a car Tuesday morning on 23rd St. while responding to a call about a nude woman in the area.

University Police Chief Kevin Hay said at about 2:38 a.m., the department received a call from an officer who reported seeing the unclothed woman at 23rd and G streets, near the Lerner Health and Wellness Center. Another officer who was patrolling campus on bike responded to a radio call for back-up but was hit by an automobile in the process, Hay said.

The officer was sent to GW Hospital for treatment and has been released, Hay said.

Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived on scene later and arrested the woman – unaffiliated with GW and determined to be under the influence of narcotics – and also transported her to the hospital for treatment.

Hay said the department believes the woman undressed herself due to intoxication from ingesting drugs.
