The GW men’s basketball team received a bid to the National Invitation Tournament Sunday night and will play the University of Virginia in a first-round match-up Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va. If the Colonials win, they will play the winner of Drexel vs. Villanova in the second round.
The invitation marks the first postseason appearance for the Colonials (18-11) since GW went to the NCAA Tournament in 1999 and the first postseason bid for the team under head coach Karl Hobbs, who could not be reached for comment Sunday night.
The Cavaliers, who finished 17-12 overall this season and 6-10 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, have a 13-4 home record while the Colonials are 5-8 on the road. Virginia is a balanced offensive team, as five players average in double figures.
All NIT games are played on campus sites, except for the semifinals, championship and consolation games, which are played at Madison Square Garden in New York.
