Visitors from around the D.C. metropolitan area watched the 2024 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday evening.
The tradition of the Capitol Christmas Tree, also called the “People’s Tree,” dates back to 1964. The first tree was sourced from Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, while this year’s tree is from Tongass National Forest in Alaska and is adorned with over 5,000 ornaments and LED lights.
