Students in a Sustainability Reporting class took a trip to the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant last week to observe the production of Bloom, a soil produced from treated wastewater. Raw sludge from homes and businesses in the District undergoes thermal hydrolysis to remove pathogens and is ultimately converted into soil sold to farmers, landscapers and contractors across the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area.
