Officials will install a new cooling tower on the roof of Rome Hall this weekend.
University spokesperson Julia Metjian said maintenance workers will upgrade the air conditioning system in the Academic Center complex, housing Smith, Rome and Phillips halls, starting Saturday. Officials will close I Street between 21st and 22nd streets Saturday to allow cranes to access the roof for the installation, according to an email officials sent to Foggy Bottom residents Friday.
Metjian declined to state why the repairs were occurring.
“The HVAC renovation will continue through the summer and is expected to be completed by the beginning of the fall 2024 semester,” Metjian said in an email.
More than a dozen students said last April that high temperatures and humidity levels made it difficult to use the practice rooms in the Phillips Hall basement.
