The men’s golf team added V1 Pro Video Analysis Software to its two-year-old Tad and Mary Jean Lindner Golf Simulator Room this week, providing a state-of-the-art technological boost to the Colonials’ training facility.
The software, funded through donors and supporters of the men’s golf program, provides motion analysis that allows the team to analyze golf swings through professional comparison, slow motion playback and drawing tools. Student-athletes can send videos of their swings to the PGA Center for Learning and Performance Branded Academy via the internet and then receive feedback and analysis from instructors. The system also allows for playback of video to examine swings for areas of improvement.
“This equipment is really going to strengthen our program,” head coach Terry Shaffer said. “I’m expecting results, and I think the V1 Pro system is going to make an immediate impact.”
Among the software’s capabilities is the ability to record an online lesson and compare the live streaming video to pre-recorded video for real-time instruction. In addition to users being automatically able to upload videos and e-mail them to coaches and instructors, they can also use the software to post the videos to social media sites. The video system also allows for coaches to leave drills and instructions for student-athletes to use.
“The generous donations by GW golf supporters allow our student-athletes the opportunity to practice with state of the art equipment,” Director of Athletics Patrick Nero said. “With these new capabilities, the Colonials’ golf program has the ability to achieve the success that we know it can reach.”
