With spring now in full swing and the week of April showers ready to subside, soak in the sun this weekend with concerts, art and baseball.
Start the weekend with an immersive art experience at the Hirshhorn Museum Friday, watch Swae Lee, Sam Feldt and Sophie Holohan perform on campus at the first Spring Fling since 2019 Saturday and finish the week at the final game of the Washington Nationals’ home opener series Sunday with a cherry blossom-themed celebration to kick off the new baseball season.

One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama in the Hirshhorn Collection
Dive into an otherworldly exhibit from award-winning artist Yayoi Kusama as she puts an artistic flair on polka dots that cover her mirror-filled rooms and sculptures at this highly anticipated showcase of art. The exhibit is divided into five sections – two mirror rooms in addition to spaces for sculptures, paintings and photos of the artist. Kusama is a Japanese artist renowned for her Infinity Mirror Rooms, where a perimeter of mirrors surround a sculpture, creating a spell-binding effect that makes the images appear to spread on forever. One mirror room contains red polka dots on white sculptures, and the other features neon-colored dots on black orbs hanging from the ceiling. Same-day timed passes for the exhibit are distributed at the museum every day starting at 9:30 a.m. The passes allow a visitor to spend about 30 seconds in each mirror room, as was intended by Kusama.

GW Spring Fling
Catch a live music performance headlined by rapper Swae Lee at GW Program Board’s first Spring Fling since 2019 in University Yard. The concert generated buzz across campus after Lee leaked in a now-deleted tweet last month that he would headline the event. Singer-songwriter Sophie Holohan and DJ Sam Feldt are also slated to perform at the event. GWorld cards are required for entry, and no bags or water bottles are permitted.

Celebrate Cherry Blossoms with the Washington Nationals
Another universal sign of spring has arrived – baseball is back. The Nationals will cap off their four-game series against the New York Mets Sunday to open the season on their home turf. The team will also feature a “Blossoms and Baseball”-themed event to celebrate the cherry blossoms, which symbolize hope and new beginnings for the new season. The Nationals will wear their new highly popular cherry blossom-themed “City Connect” jerseys, which are lined with a gray and pink flower design featuring the letters “WSH” in a font meant to pay homage to the monuments. The event delightfully combines two defining symbols of spring in the District – cherry blossoms and the Nationals.
