On Friday, head down to Navy Yard for dinner to support Afghan refugees. Catch a showcase of work from local storytellers on Saturday, and top off the weekend at a jazz festival Sunday.
Friday
Specialty Sandwiches to benefit Afghan refugees
Grab a jerk chicken sausage sandwich created by two chefs from Bammy’s at Belly Full – a pop-up based out of Grazie Grazie, an Italian deli and salad shop at the Wharf – to help support Afghan refugees this Friday. All proceeds from the sandwiches sold will go toward essential items needed for refugees that have arrived in the DMV area. The sandwich ($14) comes with allspice mayo, coleslaw and jerk barbecue. The fundraiser will run from Thursday through Sunday and feature a different item each day, including some created by chefs at Albi and CHIKO.

Saturday
Field Day: A Three Day Festival for Emerging Voices
Spend your Saturday supporting emerging storytellers in the DMV at the Kennedy Center. In partnership with the production company 44:21 and the nonprofit writing and publishing program Shout Mouse Press, the Kennedy Center will showcase readings from young DMV authors, a short film festival featuring young filmmakers, a writing workshop and a community open mic. The festival runs from Thursday to Saturday, but attendees can opt to register for any one of the three days. Masks are required.

Sunday
DC JazzFest
After being postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, DC JazzFest is back this week. Events are running from Wednesday to Sunday and feature a variety of jazz musicians from vocalists to violinists. On Sunday, catch jazz guitarist John Scofield and Latin jazz and salsa band the Spanish Harlem Orchestra among other local and international talent. The finals for DCJazzPrix, an international band competition, will also take place on Sunday. Masks are required indoors and strongly encouraged outdoors.
