The District reached 12 days with no new COVID-19 deaths as of Wednesday, marking a milestone in the pandemic since it began more than a year ago.
D.C. has seen 1,141 lives lost to the coronavirus, but the number of deaths has remained constant since mid June – the longest period without deaths since the COVID-19 outbreak, according to COVID-19 data provided by District officials. More than 70 percent of adults in D.C. have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, meeting President Joe Biden’s vaccination goal set for the entire nation before the Fourth of July.
GW has logged zero COVID-19 cases since May, according to the University’s COVID-19 testing dashboard, and officials are moving forward with plans to return to campus this fall to the “fullest extent possible” with classes held “principally” in-person.
“At GW, we are spending the summer preparing our campus and operations for a comprehensive, in-person living and learning fall experience for our students, faculty and staff,” officials said in an email in June.
