The Virginia Science and Technology Campus will delay in-person activities until 10 a.m. Thursday morning due to snowfall around campus, according to a GW Advisory issued Wednesday.
The advisory states that all remote learning and telework activities will continue as regularly scheduled, but employees working on site should contact their supervisor for instructions on in-person reporting “to ensure a safe commute to work.” The VSTC’s delayed start comes as “heavy mixed precipitation” accumulated more than 3 inches of sleet and snow in Loudoun County, Virginia, which will be under a winter storm warning until 4 a.m. Thursday, according to the advisory.
“Expect challenges to travel including hazardous conditions that could impact the morning or evening commute,” the advisory states. “Please use caution and allow extra time.”
The advisory states students with “clinical responsibilities” should contact their supervisor for instruction and alert their resident, instructor or attending physician if they feel unsafe commuting to campus.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for D.C. Tuesday night, lasting until 1 a.m. Thursday. The District is predicted to receive 1 to 2 inches of snow with a coating of ice heading into Thursday morning, but the Foggy Bottom campus will continue its regular operation status, according to the advisory.
The advisory states the on-campus COVID-19 testing centers in Foggy Bottom will remain open despite the snowfall, and people unable to arrive at their test appointment because of the weather should reschedule for the next available appointment when they can return to the Foggy Bottom campus.
