Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested a man carrying a knife on campus Tuesday, according to a GW Alert.
The alert, sent at about 5:53 p.m., states that MPD officers had arrested a man – unaffiliated with the University – with a knife at 23rd and G streets. No injuries had been reported and no continuing threat was present, according to the alert.
A second GW Alert, sent at about 7:16 p.m., states that the police investigation into the incident had concluded and the area was reopened to the public.
At approximately 5:25 p.m., Tyrone William Marshall approached a person at the intersection of 23rd and G streets. Marshall, 40, brandished a knife and threatened the person, then fled the scene, an MPD report states.
Officers later apprehended Marshall, placed him under arrest for assault with a dangerous weapon and transported him to the Second District police station for processing, according to an MPD report.
