Sign of the Whale will close by the end of the week.

The Dupont Circle bar has been a common nighttime destination for students since it first opened in nearly 50 years ago. Sign of the Whale is known for its half-off happy hour deals and has hosted college-themed bashes like the “Ugly Sweater Party,” National Football League watch parties and fraternity and sorority gatherings.

The bar rebranded itself in October 2017 as “D.C. Tap House” in an effort to reach more than college students but closed shortly after the switch in February 2018. Sign of the Whale reopened in May with its original namesake.

Sign of the Whale is offering specials during its final week in business, including $3 well drinks and $6 for everything else on the menu, according to its Instagram account.

The bar’s closure follows several other changes to D.C.’s nightlife. Buffalo Billiards and The Front Page will also move out of its current spaces by August 2019, DCist reported Wednesday.
