GW will retire its scoreboard after nearly a decade in the Smith Center’s rafters, GW Facilities and Operations tweeted Wednesday.
Athletic department spokesman Brian Sereno said the new scoreboard is one of “several enhancements” planned to upgrade athletics facilities. He said the new scoreboard will be installed before the 2019-20 season begins.
The high-definition scoreboard was added during the final phase of a Smith Center renovation spanning from 2009 to 2010. During the renovations, officials also revamped the exterior of the center with an all-glass front, upgraded locker rooms and added new concession areas, bathrooms, an academic center and the Colonials’ Club.
The board dropped onto the Smith Center basketball court in September during scheduled maintenance work.
