‘The Canceling of the Mapplethorpe Exhibition’ at the Corcoran
The Corcoran School of the Arts and Design debuted a new exhibit Friday highlighting the controversy behind canceling late photographer Robert Mapplethorpe’s work in 1989. The installation, “6.13.89: The Canceling of the Mapplethorpe Exhibition,” sheds light on a collection of archival material, like newspaper clippings and angry call logs, to document the closure. The exhibit will be on display in the Flagg Building until October.
Flagg Building, 500 17th St. NW, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free.
Saturday

The organization Cultivate the City will host the inaugural D.C. Strawberry Festival at H Street Farms to recognize the early summer strawberry harvest season. The festival will include a full day of contests, like a chubby bunny strawberry stuffing contest and classes on how to make your own jam, start a garden or whip up desserts from your garden.
