Officials announced a new University Honors Program director Wednesday.
Bethany Kung, an associate professor of honors and physics, will step into the role beginning July 1, according to an email sent to members of the honors program. Kung will be responsible for programming, recruitment, student research and Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor society, the email read.
“We are all looking forward to working with Professor Kung over the next few years as we continue along the path of academic excellence that has been the hallmark of the honors program,” Terry Murphy, the deputy provost for academic affairs, said in the email.
The honors program directorship has been vacant since Maria Frawley stepped down from the position last semester. Ingrid Creppell, an associate professor of political science and international affairs, has led the program in the interim.
Administrators also hired Elizabeth Chacko, the inaugural associate provost for special programs and the Mount Vernon academic experience, in April. Chacko, who will also start July 1, will have a hand in overseeing the Vern’s academic groups, which include the honors program and Women’s Leadership programs.
