Hatchet reporter Priyanka Pardasani shares her latest musical obsessions.
“Paradise”
Coldplay
I’ve grown up listening to this English pop rock band and there’s no doubt I’m one of their biggest fans. You can always count on Coldplay to produce a catchy song with meaningful lyrics, and “Paradise” is nothing short of the band’s usual genius. This song was recently released as a single off the album “Mylo Xyloto,” set to drop Oct. 24. Ever since their “X & Y” album in 2005, Coldplay has incorporated more of an electronic sound into their music, but “Paradise” is predominantly mainstream and holds onto the band’s traditional style.
“Eyes”
Kaskade ft. Mindy Gledhill
Chances are if you know house music, you know the American DJ Ryan Raddon, better known by his stage name Kaskade. After attending the Identity Festival in Wantagh, N.Y. earlier this summer, I have come to appreciate his hypnotic rhythms and enchanting vocals even more that I did before. “Eyes” is an absolutely incredible song that gives me goose bumps every single time I hear it. More soothing and relaxing than most of his past work, this track will not disappoint. After one listen, it will be featured on your “recently played” for months.
“Club Paradise”
Drake
As Toronto’s pride, Drake never disappoints his hometown. When his album “Thank Me Later” was released in June of 2010, it earned the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard 200. Drake has received a great deal of criticism in the past, but it’s hard to deny that this young Toronto native is talented. While Drake is busy releasing his own singles and being featured on everyone else’s, he always brings 100 percent to every line he raps. “Club Paradise” is a melodic song in which the 24-year-old discusses going back to Canada and realizing all the girls he loved in the past have now moved on to other men and other lives. I’m sure that the success of this new single will merely foreshadow the success of his upcoming album “Take Care” when it’s released Oct. 24.
