Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested a student Wednesday after he had an argument with his roommate at an apartment building near campus, according to a police report.
At about 1:56 a.m., junior James McMahon and the reporting person were arguing about the cleanliness of their sixth-floor apartment at Varsity on K, the report states.
The reporting person told officers that McMahon told his roommate, “I will slap the shit out of you.” MPD officers placed McMahon under arrest for “threats to do bodily harm,” according to the report.
McMahon said the charges against him were dropped as soon as he arrived at the Second District police station.
“I think that the cops just put me in jail because I had no other place to go because it was 3 a.m., and they gave me that option,” he said.
McMahon said he never hit his roommate and went to sleep instead of taking action.
“The threat was barely even a threat; that’s why it was dropped right away,” he said.
McMahon’s roommate declined to comment.
