Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested a man previously barred from campus for starting a fire in a University building Sunday, according to a police report.
At about 3 a.m., a GW Police Department officer responded to Ross Hall for a report of an individual starting a fire. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with Metro Transit officers, who had detained 50-year-old Demarcus Graves, according to the report.
Graves admitted he set trash on fire inside of a garbage can “because of the rat infestation,” the report states. The trash was no longer on fire when additional officers arrived on the scene, and the fire did not cause any property damage, according to the report.
Officers did not find any outstanding warrants against Graves but did find he had already been barred from campus. Graves was subsequently arrested, according to the report.
GWPD officers requested MPD for a transport, and at approximately 3:15 a.m., an MPD transport unit arrived on scene to transport Graves to the Second District station for processing.
