Friday Night Concert Series at Yards Park
The annual Yards Park Concert Series begins its run of shows that will last all summer long Friday. Pebble to Pearl, an R&B and pop group, will kick off the lineup with funky and upbeat disco tunes. Located right by the Anacostia River, you can take in a gorgeous view with a date or with your family. The concert features family-friendly lyrics with plenty of nearby food options, like limited spicy flavors at Ice Cream Jubilee. If you’re coming with older guests, catch some music before buying a round of drinks at District Winery or Chloe, all located minutes from Yards Park.
Yards Park, 355 Water St. SE. 7 to 9 p.m. Free.
Saturday
Dardanella: The Great Gatsby Lawn Party
If you loved F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, Dardanella, a 1920s-inspired lawn party, will be a dream come true. Named after one of the biggest musical hits of the era, Dardanella celebrates everything about the decade, from vintage orchestras and old-timey gramophones playing tunes from the roaring ’20s. A professional choreographer will also be on hand to teach the Charleston. Grab your bowler hat or flapper dress, or you can buy era-appropriate garb from vintage vendors on site, so you can play croquet in style. Finally, top off your day with the most popular prohibition-style cocktails and a carnival snack.
Washington National Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Ave. NW. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets start at $55.
Sunday
Willie Nelson & Family with Sturgill Simpson
The Anthem’s billing Sunday will make any country music listener swoon, with music legend Willie Nelson sharing the stage with critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson. These two musicians will be joined by opener Cris Jacobs before Nelson and Simpson go off as part of their 16 date Outlaw Music Festival Tour.
