Campus police responded to a report of a suspect carrying a handgun Thursday night, according to a GW alert.
At about 8:24 p.m., a GW Alert stated that an armed white male wearing a dark suit was reported near the intersection of 21st and F streets at 8:14 p.m. The suspect was carrying a handgun and possibly wearing a mask, according to the alert.
Faculty, staff and students were told to avoid the area while Metropolitan Police Department and GW Police Department officers investigated the area, according to the alert.
A second alert sent at 8:38 p.m. stated that GWPD and MPD canvassed the area, but no suspects were found, and faculty, staff and students were allowed to return to the intersection.
“At this time, there is no more immediate danger to campus,” the alert stated. “The community should consider the situation over.”
A University spokeswoman could not immediately be reached for comment, and an MPD spokesman said he did not have any additional information about the incident.
