The Center for Student Engagement and GW Housing are now combined into one unit.

Peter Konwerski, the dean of student affairs, said in September, Tim Miller, the associate dean of students, took over responsibilities for GW Housing. He said all positions and job duties will stay the same after the change and that it won’t negatively affect students.

“As a result of the transition, all of the units that support our student residential communities and student engagement are now housed together, which will allow for more collaboration across the unit as all positions now report to the same associate dean,” Konwerski said in an email.

Konwerski said officials “look forward to seeing how the newly-combined unit will evolve in the years to come.”

The CSE has traditionally managed the resident adviser program along with a range of other student activties but was a seperate department from GW Housing.

Residence Hall Association President Rachel Metz said the merger “makes a lot of sense” and will give the two departments the opportunity to work more closely together. The main change, she said, will be that housing officials will now report to Miller.

“Hopefully GW housing and the CSE will have more of an opportunity to coordinate on things for before move-in, so they can share ideas for the transition process, as well as during the year,” she said.

Metz said RHA previously had regular meetings with officials in both the CSE and GW Housing, and now the organization will “expand” the things they talk about with Miller.
