A new Bethesda-based restaurant, featuring a menu filled with smoked breakfast burgers, opened its doors Monday.
Bold Bite Market, located on 1028 19th St., is reminiscent of a classic diner with red booths, large windows and creative drawings on the wall. The restaurant features an extensive menu filled with customizable sandwiches, salads, fries, milkshakes and doughnuts.
It’s a build-your-own-meal type of restaurant where they provide you with the options for sandwiches and salads and then allow each customer to customize their dish with any type of protein, toppings or greens of your choosing.
A few must-trys from their menu are the sweet milkshakes ($5), the Clubber ($6.99 to $8.25) and the Latin salad ($8.25 to $9.50).
I walked into Bold Bite Market with the intention of trying their legendary beast breakfast sandwich ($9.24), which is a hamburger, half-smoke, fried egg, tomato, lettuce and American cheese drizzled with bold sauce served on an everything bagel.
Unfortunately, I went in around lunch time and they don’t serve this oversized sandwich all day, only during breakfast. But not to worry, everything at Bold Bite Market is customizable. So I decided to make my own rendition of this tasty breakfast sandwich with what they had on the menu.
With the help of a patient cashier, I concocted a burger similar to the beast breakfast sandwich, both in taste and price.
My sandwich had a juicy hamburger, spicy half-smoke, a gooey fried egg over easy, crisp tomatoes and luscious aioli served on a chewy potato bun. The burger was plain and juicy, allowing the other ingredients to take center stage.
The half-smoke fell apart at the first bite but the meat was perfectly cooked and deliciously tender. It also offered both a smoky and spicy flavor to combat the tameness of the burger.
The creamy yolk of the fried egg ran over the sides of the sandwich whenever I took a bite. It got all over my hands, but was well worth the mess. Both the flavor and the texture of the egg worked with the luscious and fragrant aioli.
The fresh tomatoes offered a crisp texture to combat the richness of the other ingredients. And the fluffy potato bun surrounding these diverse ingredients added a neutralizing taste and texture to this savory breakfast sandwich.
I’ve never had anything quite like this rendition of Bold Bite Market’s beast breakfast sandwich. All of these ingredients complemented each other well, while also providing their own distinct flavors and textures.
You won’t find this unique dish anywhere else in the District, so go grab the beast during breakfast hours or make your own rendition for lunch.
