How would the people of Earth explain to visiting aliens that in the world’s richest country, children starve to death everyday?
The musical, “When ET Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” raises this question and many more.
Written and composed by James Levy, a professor in the department of music, Levy said the play “represents the real culmination of something I’ve been working on for half my life.
“This is my baby,” he said.
The sci-fi musical first took the stage in 2004 and, after going through extensive workshops and revisions, it appeared last summer at the Capitol Fringe Festival. It will be featured on that stage again this year.
The musical stars a female rock star, influenced by the heroism of Joan of Arc, who is questioning her sanity after receiving mysterious calls from extraterrestrials that prefer to be called “visitors.”
The visitors admire her music and worldly views towards humanity.
The show will play at the Spooky Action Theater, located at 1810 16th St., on July 19 and 20 at 9 p.m., July 23 at 1:45 p.m. and July 24 at 2 p.m.
