Hajj Turner, who has spent six seasons as the associate head coach of men’s basketball, is now an assistant coach.
Turner joined the Colonials coaching staff in 2011 when former head coach Mike Lonergan was hired. He previously served as associate head coach under Lonergan at Vermont. Current men’s basketball head coach Maurice Joseph was hired as assistant director of basketball operations the same year.
Turner’s title was changed on the GW Athletics roster this week, according to an archived version of the website.
Joseph – who was officially named head coach in March – made the decision because he wanted Turner, who had been serving at an elevated role for his entire tenure in Foggy Bottom, to coach at the same capacity as assistant coaches Carmen Maciarello and Chris Holm, Director of Athletics Communications Justin Moore said in an email.
“[Joseph] simply wanted to have three assistants all working on a level playing field,” Moore said. “That’s what he always envisioned for when he became a head coach and assembled his staff.”
