GW received $8 million to expand a scholar program at the School of Engineering and Applied Science, the University announced Monday.

The Clark Charitable Foundation donated the money to the program to honor the late GW trustee emeritus and founder of Clark Enterprises, A. James Clark, according to a release. Clark initially gave $8 million to start the Clark Engineering Scholars Program in 2011.

“We are deeply grateful to the Clark Charitable Foundation and the Clark family for building in this way on Jim’s commitment to our students,” University President Steven Knapp said in the release.

Sixteen alumni have participated in the program that includes different events like an annual leadership boot camp, a semester abroad, mentorships with SEAS alumni, internships and community service opportunities, according to the release.

“We are proud to increase our commitment to support deserving students who will be the next generation of engineering leaders,” President and CEO of the Clark Charitable Foundation Joseph Del Guercio said in the release.

GW’s $1 billion campaign is $18 million shy of reaching its goal, according to the campaign website.
