A person was arrested Thursday night after more than 200 pills consisting of controlled substances were found in an International House room, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.

University Police Department Officer Nathan Hoffer said in the report’s narrative that he smelled incense burning outside the residence hall room, which is not permitted in residence halls, at about 7:30 p.m. He got permission from the UPD shift supervisor to enter the room after a “negative contact” with the room’s occupants, citing health and safety concerns, according to the report.

The GW administrator on call, Marcella Wong, then searched the room and found and seized 170 Xanax pills, 21 opioid pills, two anxiety pills and 14 unidentified pills, the report states.

The arrested individual was charged with three counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and three counts of possession of a controlled substance, according to the document.

The report also indicates that MPD officers were on the scene.

The UPD crime log states the incident as a drug law violation and destruction of property/vandalism.
