Friday
Capital Fringe Festival Preview: Check out a rapid-fire preview of nearly 30 shows appearing in the Fringe Festival next week. Free admission at 607 New York Ave., NW.
Skysaw (featuring Jimmy Chamberlain of The Smashing Pumpkins) plays at Black Cat. Tickets are $13 and doors open at 9 p.m.
Lucky Dub, made up of students and alumni, plays at Rock N Roll Hotel. Tickets are $10 and doors open at 8:30 p.m.
Saturday
Party on the Potomac: An open bar, barge party with seven hours of music, food, drinks and fireworks. From 4 to 11 p.m. at The Bullpen at 1299 Half St., SE. $65 for women and $75 for men.
R.Kelly at the Verizon Center: Take a break from the festive swarm of Americana and retreat to R.Kelly, Keyshia Cole and Marsha Ambrosius. 8 p.m., tickets are $78 to $103
Kid Cudi takes over Merriweather Post Pavilion. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $49 for reserved pavilion seats, $49 General Admission Floor and $35 for the lawn.
Sunday
The Big Boom with DJ Nu-Mark, Fort Knox Five, See-I and Rex Riddem explode at U Street Music Hall. Event begins at 9 p.m. and tickets are $10.
Monday
A Capitol Fourth: This year’s free concert on the Mall features performances by Steve Martin, Josh Groban, Little Richard, “American Idol” winner Jordin Sparks, the National Symphony Orchestra and military bands. Gates open at 3 p.m. and the show begin at 8 p.m.
Brightest Young Things Summer Camp: Local event-savvy bloggers host a pool party at the Capitol Skyline Hotel at 10 I St., SW. Admission is $15 and the event goes from noon to 8 p.m.
Red, White and Boom at Ibiza. From 5 to 10:30 p.m. partygoers can take in musical acts including Roctopus, Drew Dixon, Wander East, Morrison Brothers and two DJs. Admission is $60 and a VIP ticket for $80 includes a $50 tab at George in Georgetown.
