Gelman Library staff reported two separate instances of defecation on the floor of the library’s 6th floor men’s restroom Monday to the University Police Department.

UPD Chief Kevin Hay said these are the only two reported instances of defecation at Gelman this year.

Last April, The Hatchet reported an uptick in lewd activities in University facilities, including two incidents of inappropriate defecation in Gelman restrooms.

“We are looking at some different methods to determine who is responsible,” Hay said.

University spokeswoman Emily Cain said UPD does not have any evidence indicating the incidents that occurred Monday are related to similar incidents from last year.

Cain declined to comment when asked why defecation appears to be a recurring issue at Gelman.
