Interfraternity Council to vote on expansion

The Interfraternity Council, which oversees the campus’ 13 male Greek-letter organizations, will be voting next week on when it will welcome Kappa Alpha Order.

In October the IFC voted to expand by adding two new organizations, Sigma Chi and Kappa Alpha Order. Sigma Chi has already established a chapter on campus with 36 members. The IFC will vote next Wednesday to decide whether Kappa Alpha Order will begin the recruitment process in fall of 2006 or spring 2007.

Junior John Och, IFC president, said the President’s Council, which is made up of the presidents of the 13 male Greek-letter organizations, will be making the decision and taking numerous factors into account.

“We don’t want to expand too quickly, but after looking at the success of Sigma Chi this year, expansion is definitely a possibility,” Och said.

Kappa Alpha Order is ready to begin the colonization process but is waiting for the IFC to give it the go-ahead, Och said.

He added that the President’s Council will also be considering a proposal to welcome another new Greek-letter organization to campus in the next calendar year.
