Posted 8 p.m. June 4- Family members confirmed today the homicide victim found in his K Street apartment over the weekend was GW graduate student Daniel Krug.
Krug, 30, was set to begin his second year in the master’s business administration program. He was found strangled in his second-floor apartment in the Shoremeade, at 2517 K St., Saturday.
Officers went to the apartment at about 3:15 p.m. Saturday after friends notified police that Krug failed to show up for a wedding and race that day, MPD spokesman Sgt. Joe Gentile said.
Metropolitan Police reported no signs of forced entry and found Krug’s apartment locked when they arrived.
Gentile said the motive of the homicide is under investigation.
Krug was a “very concerned, open person” who put other people ahead of himself, said his older brother Oliver Krug.
The Easton, Pa. native graduated from Cornell University with a degree in urban and regional planning in 1994. He worked in Lake Tahoe, Nev. and Seattle before coming to GW last year to work on his master’s degree.
“He really enjoyed being back at school,” his brother said. “He liked that fact that people were more motivated.and the very international class.”
Born to German immigrants, he spoke fluent German and enjoyed traveling to Europe to visit family and friends, Krug’s brother said. Krug was also an avid skier and marathon runner, he said.
Services for Krug are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at St Jane Frances Church in Easton, Pa.
