Cathy Joens single-handedly outscored the Duquesne Dukes in the first half en route to a GW 74-59 victory Thursday night. The win extends the Colonials win streak to seven games, as they remain the only undefeated team in the Atlantic 10. GW is now playing without Elena Vishniakova, who awaits results about an ACL injury.

Joens, who finished the day with a game-high 23 points, scored 19 first-half points to lead GW into the break with 42-18 edge.

Freshman Anna Montanana, starting in place of the injured Vishniakova, played only 15 minutes and fouled out with no points. Valerie Williams also saw time at forward, pulling down seven rebounds and scoring six points, all off foul shots.

Vishniakova is still awaiting her MRI results and did not travel to Pittsburgh.

After Joens, who was 4 of 9 from three-point range, Erica Lawrence came up big, notching a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Lindsey Davidson came off the bench and added 11 points on 4-for-10 shooting.

The game remained scoreless until 3:20 into the first half, when GW went on a 17-4 run and took the lead for the rest of the game. The Dukes meanwhile scored only five first-half field goals, shooting 19 percent on 5-of-26 shooting.

Duquesne pulled within 14, second-smallest deficit of the game, after a 16-6 run to start the second half, only to have the Colonials come back and extend their lead to 25. The Duke’s smallest deficit of 13 came with 21 seconds left in the game as head coach Joe McKeown cleared the bench.
