After sweeping LeMoyne College last weekend, the GW baseball team headed to Stockton, Ca., this weekend for a three-game set at Billy Hebert Field against the University of the Pacific and dropped all three.

The Colonials fell to 4-9 and 1-9 on the road. Pacific rose to 14-2.

Sunday, March 5

Following GW’s most exciting game yet, the Colonials followed in game three with four errors and 10 strikeouts at the plate to lose despite 10 hits.

The Colonials trailed early on. After the bottom of the first it was 3-1 Pacific. GW pitcher Chris Worth threw a wild pitch to plate one run.

In the bottom of the fifth Pacific’s Rick Morton blasted a two-run homerun. giving Pacific a 6-2 edge. Pacific scored 6 more in the eighth. In the top of the ninth the Colonials rallied for four runs – three from Dan Rouhier’s three-run homerun. Rouhier finished with four RBIs.

Worth gave up 5 runs in just under seven innings of work.

Saturday, March 4

In the 11th inning junior pitcher Bryan Beggs allowed a lead-off double to Pacific’s Todd Brambie. He filled the bases and with two outs walked in the Tigers’ winning run.

The Colonials started well and coasted with a five-run lead until the third. Then freshman pitcher Greg Conden allowed three runs. Pacific scored three more by the fifth, and suddenly GW was down 7-5.

Down 8-5 in the seventh, GW rallied back with four runs. The Colonials took a 9-8 edge into the bottom of the inning, when Pacific’s Nick Guichard drove a single to right that scored Richard Hackett.

Senior Ryan Dacey went 2-for-4 with a double. Senior Matt Walker went 3-for-5, while junior Dan Rouhier homered.

Friday, March 3

Senior Ryan Dacey scored in the first on a Matt Walker sacrifice fly, but the Colonials would only score once more in the third with Walker’s run-scoring double.

The Tigers dominated the game on offense and defense. In the first, Pacific’s Chris Moreno tripled off junior Adam Belicic (1-3). Belicic surrendered five runs on seven hits and was replaced in the sixth. Belicic struck out six and walked five.

When freshman Glen Skutnik came in, he held the Tigers to just two hits, but the Colonials didn’t follow the solid relief pitching with offense.

The Colonials one through five hitters finished just 2-for-15.
