Popular frozen yogurt chain Pinkberry opened the doors to its first store in the District Thursday.

A long line formed outside the store – located at 1213 Connecticut Ave. in Dupont Circle – and along the sidewalk Friday, the yogurt shop’s first full day in business.

Pinkberry held an opening party for its debut, distributing free frozen yogurt and organizing games, photo booths and events at neighboring restaurants. The international chain operates stores across 30 states and nine countries, and plans to open a shop across the Potomac river in Arlington early this summer.

“We have such a great neighborhood to be in and everyone is supporting us,” Brenna Jones, a member of Pinkberry’s training staff, said. “Last night we had a line that was out the door and around the block.”

Using social networking and word of mouth, Pinkberry spread news of its grand opening around the District.

“We have created quite a buzz around the street,” Jones said. “People have been coming and knocking on our door all week.”

Pete Casey, the East Coast representative for the franchise, said Pinkberry is confident its unique and special product will continue to attract customers.

“We put a lot of effort into quality,” Casey said.
