Women’s tennis freshman Julia Blakeley earned the first Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie Performer of the Week for the 2011 women’s tennis season, the conference announced Monday.
The honor came after Blakeley’s impressive outing against Howard on Sunday, when she and fellow freshman Leah Pascarella defeated their opponents 9-8 in the No. 3 doubles slot. Blakeley, who hails from Irving, Calif., continued her success in her singles match that afternoon, defeating her opponent in straight sets.
Blakeley is undefeated in the No. 2 singles slot so far in the spring season, victorious in all four of her matches against Drexel, Penn, George Mason and Howard.
Blakeley and the Colonials will next travel to Philadelphia to take on Atlantic 10 rival Temple Sunday, Feb. 13 at noon.
