At about 2:15 p.m., the center of Irene is located about 95 miles south of Norfolk, Va. and is moving to the north-northeast at approximately 15 miles per hour.

Irene’s storm center will be moving from eastern North Carolina to Chesapeake Bay this evening and continue up the coast toward New York.

As Irene moves north, tropical-storm-force winds are predicted to spread across much of New England and the Hudson Valley region into Sunday night.

Rainfall amounts from eastern North Carolina to the Hudson Valley and New England could potentially amount to six to 15 inches and possibly higher in certain locations.

The D.C. area has seen only light rainfall, with totals in most areas under 0.3 inches.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect across the eastern seaboard, including in D.C. and Baltimore.
