A cab ride in the District will cost riders $1 more than usual beginning Monday, after Mayor Vincent Gray signed an executive order authorizing a fuel surcharge, the Associated Press reported.
The fee will last until July 25 unless the D.C. Taxicab Commission decides to repeal the law. The commission suggested that the mayor approve the surcharge because of rising gas prices in the D.C. area, according to the AP.
Taxis that drive riders out of the District won’t charge the $1 fee.
