Nobel laureate to join faculty

Updated 10:05 p.m.

Nobel Prize winner and biochemist Ferid Murad is set to join the GW faculty tomorrow.

The University announced earlier today that a Nobel laureate in medicine would be joining the faculty, but did not release their name.

The Post reports that Murad is coming from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He shared winning the Nobel Prize with two other researchers in 1998 “for discovering the role of nitric oxide in the cardiovascular system, controlling the process by which blood vessels relax and widen.”

The University will hold a welcome ceremony for the new faculty member tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in the Jack Morton Auditorium. Students, faculty and staff are welcome.
