An adult male was rescued with non-fatal injuries from a creek near the 2700 block of Virginia Ave. around 8:30 p.m., a D.C. Fire Department official confirmed Friday evening.
Pete Piringer, director of public information for the D.C. Fire Department, said the adult male was rescued from the side of the creek by emergency responders and will be transported to a hospital with non-fatal injuries. Piringer could not confirm whether or not the adult male was a GW student.
Piringer said the victim was found partially submerged in the creek, at the bottom of a 40 to 50 foot downward sloping embankment covered in trees and thick underbrush.
“It appears as though he fell down this embankment and ended up in the water,” Piringer said. “He has been extricated.”
The area near the embankment was blocked off by caution tape, along with approximately 20 emergency responders and multiple Police and EMS vehicles.
“It’s very chaotic,” onlooker and GW alumna Sayera Choudhury said as fire officials pulled the man from the creek using a rope and pulley. “It’s a waste of manpower for one person.”
