The misleading e-mail sent from the Office of Admissions to a number of prospective students earlier this month was sent to all Early Decision II applicants, Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions Kathy Napper said in a statement Thursday.
University spokeswoman Michelle Sherrard said Monday evening that the e-mail, which was sent Feb. 10 and congratulated recipients on their acceptance to GW – even though some had already learned they did not get in to the University – was sent to “some” Early Decision II applicants. But Napper said Thursday that the e-mail went to all Early Decision II applicants, reaching many students in error.
“Unfortunately, due to a clerical error, all Early Decision 2 applicants received a congratulatory email rather than just the admitted students,” the statement said.
Napper’s statement did not disclose the exact number students that received the mistaken e-mail.
As of, Jan. 29, the University had received about 825 Early Decision II applications.
