A panel of Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball head coaches and media members think the Colonials will finish in fourth place in the league this season.
GW was picked fourth in the A-10s annual preseason poll, the conference announced Tuesday morning from its Media Day at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Dayton was picked first, followed by Rhode Island and Davidson.
VCU was picked fifth followed by Richmond, Saint Joseph’s, St. Bonaventure, La Salle, Massachusetts, Duquesne, Saint Louis, George Mason and Fordham.
The Colonials received one first-place vote behind Dayton’s 12, Rhode Island’s eight and Davidson’s six, indicating that the Flyers, last year’s A-10 Championship runners-up, are not viewed as the prohibitive favorites.
GW seniors Patricio Garino and Kevin Larsen were both named to the Preseason All-Conference Second Team. Garino was also named to the All-Defensive team.
The first team is made up of five juniors: Davidson guard Jack Gibbs, La Salle guard Jordan Price, Rhode Island forward Hassan Martin, Rhode Island Guard E.C. Matthews and Saint Joseph’s forward DeAndre’ Bembry.
